Victoria and Philip came over for stargazing.
We stayed up observing the stars
until 1am–well,
I observed the stars.
They observed the clouds

and kept claiming that there were
clowns, Elvis, Egyptian mummies,
and Betty Boop in the sky.

This summer will be good

“What do you think of
when you hear this song?”

acceptable answers:

dancing around
   in a bliss
      shaded by burden,

Christmas,

   the rapid way
      a child
         breathlessly
            tells a story,
etc.

a good cup of warmth
watching things fall
and loving it anyway
somehow
leaves. and leaving.

The sun was at that point
where it is on the verge
of setting but it hasn’t yet,
so the light was a really
strong presence
and it was still golden.

if you look closely
enough, you can see
anything in the world
weeping

the trees smear the sky like a palette
the cold of the windowpane on your nose
and on Monday, the light was streaming
in across my bare legs and I didn’t
even realize I was nodding off
it just felt like sleep and thoughts
and the blurryworld were all the same

I google searched
“no one understands”
and got a lot of awful anime
and then just added
“fawn”
to the end of the phrase
and: gold
