I saw an emo today.
It was precious.
Made me just want to hold
the poor dear and whisper
in its ear “It’s okay–
I too dislike the establishment.”

And then we would shamble
to the nearest coffee shop
and I would teach it hipster

In a fit of bachelorian rage,
I flung myself from a tall building
last night. Next thing I knew,
I was a sparrow.

Folks in the rebirth department
neglected to wipe my memories.
And so I am now
a sparrow, albeit a very good-looking one.

I’m hoping springtime brings both delicious
grubs and fruitful mates.
As for how I am typing,
I found an old lady
with Wi-Fi in the park,
and she finds it amusing to watch me
peck at her keyboard.

Let her laugh.

Outside the physical realm,
however, emotions like
love can expand
without cost.
