{an image of hipster-God
just flashed through my mind
saying “I knew you
before you were born” [Jer 1:5]}

Oh
what I would give
to encounter myself
on the street
one evening.

among those questions,
“what big words do you know”

“do you look at the stars at night?”

Indeed, the timing of the advent
of the cedars seemed providential
this year. A sunny, mild day
here at home, and I look outside and see
some shadows in the berry bush —
it always takes me by surprise, but there
they were.
Accompanying the waxwings was a symphony
of other birds — chickadees, robins,
sparrows, juncos, doves, and some
which I rarely see like a downy woodpecker,
and a flicker. It seems they all chose
my neighborhood
that morning.

Grateful

Yeah, Beautiful City

really just captivated me.

I feel like he is
performing a beautiful burdensome
surgery on my brain, my soul, and his
scalpel is mathematics.

Only left with
the aftermath.

That’s what happens when you’re sleeping
on a metaphor.
