memory fountains

As I walked around the memory
fountains As I walked around
the south fountain
first the tears that were welling
up in my eyes started flowing
from their concealed place
behind my sunglasses.

As my tears began to flow,
through blinking eyes
I started to read
as I walked. I stopped
I knew a story, I knew a name,
and I remembered, and I prayed,
and I cried.

I walked around both of the fountains
surrounded in bronze with the
immortal inscription
lost but not forgotten.

part of the richness

Thank you
for the Christmas
tree you
bought me so many years ago
the first Christmas after my husband
died.

I have never received so perfect,
so kind,
so tender a present.

It is not a ghost
of Christmas past.
It is Christmas present,
and it is always
part of the richness
of Christmas

Unearthly Gift

On Christmas Eve last year,
a man came to the door dressed
in a Santa suit.
We reluctantly let him in
not at all ready

What we all wanted,
no one on Earth could give us.
He recited a poem
he wrote sometime in his years

All I remember of it is the opening words:
“Dear Mom, Dear Dad….”

I couldn’t see through the tears
or hear through the sound
of our hearts breaking again

It was beautiful,
this random act of kindness
He did a wonderful thing.
He also reminded us that

God
His son
knew our pain
and his Son rose,
and went to Heaven,
so He could greet you
just as you will greet us

when we come Home.

every. single. day.

know that you are
valuable.
stretch your bright
shatter your veneer.
love hard. resist nothing. embrace
your story. throw your stone
KNOWING that it will send ripples.

be a prism
not a rock.
sing loud.
ask questions.
forgive. give.
grow. go

with gratitude. with
happiness.

every.
single.
day.
