hitch the mule behind the cart,
today,
so early,
i woke up.

went to St. Elizabeth
and got my foot checked out
by a half-portly
half-stubby
doctor named
Bever, like beaver,
which i thought was funny.

he didn’t even say goodbye,
in fact
had the assistant
sign me out,
so the whole way out i
had my favorite
finger up
