Still bright here
waiting
for the bus to home
after the
rehearsal where I haven’t
played any notes, instead
took lots of notes
in my pink notebook.

I remember being in 5th grade,
Eternal rest, grant unto them O Lord,
in my science class.
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
My brother was in the same room,
May they rest in peace.
We all just got in there,
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed,
my science teacher pointed to the screen.
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
We all just stared in disbelief.
Amen.

“Serving size: two slices”—
Should’ve fried three.
Not enough bacon in my BLT.

It’s nights like this
I am thankful
Cool crisp air,
the sound of crickets
and frogs and a sky
full of stars
more that could I ask for,
expect for someone
to share it

compassion, kindness,
sense of humor, intelligence, and sanity
are things that I had to teach myself
I am wild
I shake, I cry,
I vomit, I clench my teeth,
I sweat, I hug anyone
You will be reborn each time.)
I apologize
I am sobbing
Screaming.
I know that
I truly believe that
life is so beautiful
It crushes you.
I am a burden
“Poetry surrounds us everywhere,
Getting into Heaven is hard I hear.
People are talking.
They are saying that
I have lost it.

back in second grade
I really only had one friend.
Taylor. And me and Taylor
used to walk around the playground and
talk instead of play.
Like young little philosophers,
or now that I think of it,
prisoners of war
planning an escape.

One couple is kissing in the train.
Front seat of ours.
I can see his head,
her tongue,
her bracelet,
her hair,
his hand,
her knee,
and can hear
sound.

She is alive
in the red cardinal that appeared
outside my mother’s house
the morning after we buried her,
peaceful
under an array
of yellow roses.
She carried me home
with the hawks
all the way back to Louisiana.
And I know I prayed for her
more than I’ve ever prayed
for anyone or anything;
I’ve wished on shooting stars
and passing hay bales
more than anything else
I could think to wish
She was.

What with the double-whammy
of the Moon Festival falling
on tonight’s Blue Moon,
it’s time to get your moonboots
& mooncake on.
A mellow moon-day
to you, Everyone.
