So I was taking
a long walk, when I noticed
all of the fall colors on the trees
looked gorgeous and bright.
As I was walking along
I took my sunglasses off
to wipe a smudge off, and realized
the rosy hue of the glasses had
enhanced all the colors
to make them more vivid and bright
than they actually were.
And then it hit me, this epiphany;
I realized that life might not always be
exactly what i want

Last night the north wind came up.
The dry, dusty, allergy-filled north wind.
This morning my nose is athletic!

Eventually, I will go deep into the woods and start a new life.
I will fish in the streams and forage for nuts and berries.
I will be one with nature, and nature will be one with me.
I will commune with the animals.
I will place a blade of grass between my thumbs and make a reed like sound,
and somewhere deep in my subconscious, I will remember
the sound of an oboe playing the Gran Partita.
Birds will sing.
I will create my own language.
A language that is simple
A language that is true.
I will call my language “hoofay.”
(this is phonetic, the actual spelling involves two twigs and a squirrel carcass)
In my language, there will be no redundancies.
There will be one word
For every important concept,
No more.
“Graduate School”
and
“Sleep deprivation” will both be called:
“MisKAT’wayHIMbo”
(this is phonetic, the actual spelling involves four pounds of goat meat and a picture drawn in the sand of an old woman being eaten by a seal)

goddamned elephants.
On a Thursday morning.
I don’t even understand.

Dear big, black, hideous,
Southern-sized baby Shelob
that lives above my window sill
and cowardly retreats into the safety
of the crack between the molding
and the wall when I draw near,
know this:
you may have slipped from my vice-grip
last night, and you may have slunk
into your place of sanctuary in response
to the drawing-near of my shadow tonight,
but you shall perish
from the face
of the Earth
one day
very soon,
and in that hour
there will be great weeping
and gnashing of mouth-parts
as the gavel of my just wrath
alights upon your abominable flesh,
and my visage will henceforth be a terror
to your spirit
as you wallow
in the depths
of Hades
for all perpetuity.
Be warned!

being named “Mary” is setting the bar
high.
I really cannot compete with her
magical baby mailbox of a uterus.
That’d be sweet if I could
immaculately conceive
like eight tacos
right about now.

my heart is
brightly shining with
joy and love and gratitude
for the people God has
brought into my life.
I am overwhelmed by the
Love God has shown
me through others. A
blindingly bright spot

For some, fall is about leaves
of red, yellow, and brown.
For some, fall is about hot apple cider,
spiced with cinnamon and sweetened with caramel.
For some, fall is about scarecrows
and pumpkins,
For me, fall is about the slow reappearance of the
Scarf Collection adorning the necks of people
all around me and reminding me of
the loving warmth that surrounds me.
But for a whole lot of people,
fall is just about getting colder
and colder and colder.
I realize it’s not the sunniest thought to share,
but it’s the thought that I was thinking.
